MIA Kicks Off 2019 at ISM, Cologne

2.01.2019

With an incredible first year in business behind us and plenty achieved in a short space of time, we will be looking to take our bars to new international shores in 2019. As part of our MIA Go Global initiative, we will be attending the world’s largest trade show for sweets and snacks – ISM.

Taking place from the 27th – 30th January 2019 at the Koelnmesse GmbH in Cologne, the event attracts over 37K visitors from over 140 countries around the world.

We will be showcasing our unique range of “fair-made” chocolate bars which includes the 100% Cocoa, 75% Dark Chocolate and a variety of inclusion bars in a 65% dark chocolate base: Coconut, Almond & Coconut, Cranberry & Hazelnut, Candied Orange, Hemp & Almond and Baobab & Salted Nibs.

The MIA bars are already available in Australia, Belgium, France, Germany, Portugal, The Netherlands, Sweden and the UK.

In the UK, the brand is going from strength to strength with the bars listed in Whole Foods Market, taking centre stage at the Taste of London event and garnering positive national press as well as featuring on the national television food show Sunday Brunch.

MIA also successfully crowdfunded on Seedrs during the summer, exceeding its target of £100,000.  The funds are enabling us to increase production, fund new vital equipment at the factory in Madagascar, implement strategic marketing campaigns and launch new products.

Co-founder Brett Beach said:

“2018 was a busy but incredibly rewarding year with the brand making huge progress. Since the first bars rolled off the production line in autumn 2017, we have launched in eight international markets, rolled out in Whole Foods Market and successfully crowdfunded. All the support from retailers and consumers has already made a big difference to communities in Africa. In addition to the benefits of sourcing ingredients and making chocolate in Madagascar, we have launched our first 1 for Change development project to help build a school kitchen near the capital of Madagascar.

ISM will provide us with the perfect platform to continue the sales push, meet with our new partners and target new markets.”

About MIA – Amazing Food That Does Good

Set up by a group of foodies with a shared passion for the African continent, its people, wildlife and natural ingredients, MIA, short for Made In Africa, is unique for its ability to deliver delicious tasting and beautiful products that are entirely crafted in Africa.

With 65% of the world’s cocoa coming from Africa but less than 1% of chocolate actually made there, bean-to-bar chocolate company MIA is out to change this shocking status quo.

The entire bean-to-bar chocolate making process – including the roasting, shelling, grinding, tempering and even packaging – takes place under one roof in Madagascar to utilise the freshest and best ingredients. By doing this, MIA also brings three more benefit to local communities in Africa (vs. export of raw ingredients).

The MIA brand is partnered with Proudly Made in Africa (PMIA) to ensure that products aren’t just made on the continent but are produced with as many locally sourced ingredients and materials as possible.

MIA is committed to a 1 for Change programme which ensures that 1% of all MIA sales are dedicated to development projects in places where a little goes a long way. Whether it’s projects to help save local endangered species or to improve a community’s livelihoods, the scheme is central to the brand’s philosophy.
